Multiple Offices Burglarized

Employees from four offices in Tyler are trying to clean up, after intruders burglarized and vandalized their workplace. Police say it happened at 3620 Old Bullard Road, at The Consulate. There's a lot of work ahead, for those trying to return to business as usual.

"There were papers scattered throughout and not just mine but several other offices will need to clean up," said Charlene Shreder.

Charlene Shreder came back from vacation to a major mess. "I got a call this morning that there had been a break in into the office and that it occurred sometime yesterday evening," said Shreder.  Officials say the culprits broke into the building between 9:00 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.

The Consulate is home to a number of accounting firms, an electrical company and a non- profit organization. The intruders stole computers and other electrical equipment, spilled soda, turned over furniture and ransacked through hundreds of files.

One of the companies we spoke with here told us, it could take them anywhere between a few days to a couple of months to get back to their operational level.

Outside, a number of empty beer bottles littered the area.

Charlene says she and other employees thought the area was a safe place, but this might make her change her habits. "I work late a lot of times. This is kind of, I thought, a safe building. I might have to re-think staying late and working or our other employees that stay late and work might have to rethink doing that," she said.

Charlene says although the stolen equipment is replaceable, her peace of mind is something that will not be so easy to get back.

Police say they have not identified any of the intruders at this time. They also say they are unsure how much the equipment stolen was worth, or how much damage the burglars caused.
