Support Troops and Families
If those alive during World War II will be remembered as "The Greatest Generation" I wonder how those of us alive during the "war on terror" will be remembered.
No matter how you feel about the war the folks who are fighting it, along with their families are dramatically impacted every minute of everyday. They need our support right now and I can't think of a better time to show it than this week as we celebrate our nation's independence.
When you hear people squabbling over the war you probably feel like I do, a little helpless. But I have a suggestion on what you can do.
First, remember one of the things these men and women are fighting for is the right for you to squabble about whether any war is right or wrong. In fact the countries most of our soldiers are in couldn't do it until our guys got there.
Second and more important, please remember the very personal sacrifices these families are making and figure out what you can do to support them
Be more forthright in giving your attention to US soldiers and their families. Take ‘em to dinner. Offer to watch the kids. Mow their lawn... you know how you can best show your support. And if you know someone who has already done it I'd like to hear about it.
If you don't know a family sacrificing in this way, just watch our news. We've decided to recognize an East Texas veteran every Friday night. Or go to kltv.com and click on the "community "section. It's on the left side of the screen. When you get there you'll see stories of the brave men and women who are laying so much on the line to make a better world and a better East Texas."
