"Code Red, the Critical Condition of Health in Texas" was at the forefront today.
UT Health Center's, Dr. Kirk Calhoun talked to city leaders, and said 25 percent of the state's population is without health insurance, making it the highest in the nation.
"This is a problem that we all have to be concerned about. If you can't get services in the emergency because it's dealing with people who are uninsured coming for primary care services, that's your problem so it's important that our citizens get involved in resolving this," Calhoun said.
Calhoun also says it's important to note that almost 80 percent of uninsured adults in Texas have jobs and may even be the breadwinner of the family.
