A hammerhead shark caught by a Port Charlotte fishing captain and thought to be a world-record size was carrying more than her weight around.
The almost 1,300-pound shark was pregnant and carrying 55 babies.
The pregnancy has given marine biologists some new information about the species' reproduction. It also worries some scientists and fisherman who say any potential mother's death hurts the survival of the species.
The fisherman who made the catch has since caught three sharks but let all three go.
Bucky Dennis says he should not be blamed for catching and killing the shark. Others have made recordbooks with pregnant sharks and Dennis says he didn't know the animal was pregnant either.
