A group of East Texas kids is enjoying their summer at camp, while learning how to control their diabetes. Kids are attending ETMC's diabetes camp at Camp Tyler. They learn more about checking their blood sugar, and are also enjoying some time outside, riding horses and participating in other activities.
"They will be able to identify with other kids that have diabetes so they don't feel like they are the only person in the world with diabetes. They will be networking with kids they have never met before and that's an exciting opportunity for the children," says Marie Taylor, Diabetes Educator with ETMC.
"I've learned you are not suppose to eat too much of the things that have a lot of sugar in them," says Alissa Vandergriff, suffers with type 1 diabetes.
This is the 18th year, ETMC has hosted the diabetes camp.
