Several Restaurants Have Multiple Violations

Julian's Asian Diner at 5201 South Broadway in Tyler was inspected June 22nd. Improper cooling noted for cooked pasta and chicken. Raw eggs, chicken, shrimp and meats in cooler tested from 48-63 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below. Employee seen handling dirty dishes, then clean utensils without washing hands. Worker used tongs to handle raw meats then handle produce. Improper storage of raw meats noted. Handsink needed in dish washing area. Dirty utensils and rusted racks seen. Dead and live roaches found in dish machine area and in kitchen.

Dos Flamingo's Mexican Grill at 16075 FM 849 near Lindale was inspected June 8th. Improper cooling procedures noted for rice and chili. Taco meat, tamales, eggs, and meats from 53-81 degrees; should be held at 41 degrees or below. Improper handling of ready-to-eat foods. Raw meats stored above cooked products in cooler. No sanitizer at dish machine.

Total demerits: 31.

On a recheck June 9th, queso tested from 50-54 degrees; should have been cooled to 41 degrees. Foods not date marked. Insufficient sanitization at dish machine.

Total demerits: 12.

On a second recheck June 21st, beans and soup not cooled properly. Raw eggs and ground meat tested from 48-49 degrees; should be held at 41 degrees or below. Employee seen handling raw food, then clean plate without washing hands. Cooling problems continue with reach-in cooler.

Total demerits: 14.

Dwayne's Country Café at 2202 East Fifth in Tyler was inspected May 30th. Raw meats tested at 48-50 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below. Cooked mashed potatoes at 117-127 degrees; should be 135 degrees or above.

Raw eggs stored over produce, raw meat over cooked bacon in cooler. Containers and utensils needed cleaning.

Total demerits: 27.

On a recheck June 13th, cooked gravy had not been cooled properly.

Total demerits: 5.

Currents at 1121 East 2nd in Tyler was inspected June 21st. Meat and eggs tested from 48-57 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below. Improper cooling procedures noted for pasta. Raw fish was stored over produce and bread in a cooler. Cooler not maintaining proper temperature. Rodent droppings found in storage area.

Petty's at 309 North Main in Lindale was inspected June 13th. Cooked gravy and beans not cooled properly. Cooked pasta tested at 77 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below. Employee seen handling ready-to-eat foods without proper handwashing. Raw meats stored over ready-to-eat foods.

Total demerits: 26.

Elvira's at 2121 East 5th in Tyler was inspected June 21st. Cooked chicken tested at 66 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below. Sauce as cool as 120 degrees; should be 135 degrees or above. Inspector noted improper bare hand contact of foods.

Outback Steakhouse at 5704 South Broadway was inspected June 5th. Cooked chicken had not been cooled properly and not stored at 41 degrees. Employee did not wash hands after handling dirty utensils. Raw chicken in cooler stored above raw fish, raw fish stored above corn cakes. Knives and soda dispenser not clean.

Total demerits: 24.

On a recheck June 14th, all problems had been corrected.

    An East Texas boy scout has achieved his goal of raising enough money to purchase 31 bullet proof vests in 31 days. 13 year old Jaxon Holland was raising the funds for his Eagle Scout project and surpassed his goal. Holland raised $18,000 which will cover 34 vests plus accessories. The vests will be donated to the Wood County Sheriff’s office.
