Mexican Consulate Stops In Tyler

The Mexican Consulate from Dallas spent the day issuing hundreds of ID cards today in Tyler.   People lined up for hours at the Hispanic Service Center to receive government IDs and passports. Workers at the facility say more people than expected showed up. Only 500 documents were given out.

"It's a safe way for them to identify themselves when they get in trouble or whatever," said Adolfo Auyuso, Consul For Protection of Affairs. "It's a very safe document. Some banks also accept this as a form of ID to open bank accounts."   The Mexican Consulate's office was only here for the day. Identifications can be issued at its office in Dallas Monday through Friday.
