Freedom Fighter: Dr. H.U. Head

Kilgore Chiropractor, Dr. H.U.Head made his first combat parachute jump at 1:17 A.M., June 6, 1944; D-Day. Only eleven out of 38 in his platoon survived their 37 days in Normandy before jumping into Holland.

The Battle Of The Bulge in Belgium was the next stop for the nineteen year old paratrooper, assigned to the 101st Airborne Divusion, "The Screaming Eagles."

Head says he was scared every minute he was in combat, but as a "good soldier" performed his duties with courage and skill. Head was awarded numerous medals, including two Bronze Stars, A Presidental Citation and a Purple Heart.
