Knowledge First Forum Focuses On Organ Donation

KnowledgeFirst forum focuses on organ donation

At the next free KnowledgeFirst Forum, Mauricio Giraldo MD, who performs kidney transplants at ETMC, will discuss the options for living organ donors including less-invasive surgical techniques which reduce recovery times. The event will be at noon, Tuesday, June 27, in the ETMC Pavilion, 801 Clinic Drive in Tyler.

"Many patients are waiting for organs to become available for transplants they need to go on living. Living donors can help by providing organs including kidneys," said Karen Cranford, RN, and KnowledgeFirst coordinator. "We're extending a special invitation to all those thinking about becoming living donors and all others who are interested to hear this special presentation about the gift of life."

ETMC Tyler provides the region's only transplantation services for kidney patients. Initiated in 1987, the program allows patients to remain close to home during their surgery and recovery process.
