Gas Station Owner Assaulted By Man Stealing Gas

An East Texas gas station owner is assaulted by a man stealing fuel.   It happened at the Diamond Shamrock station just before 9:00 a.m. That's located on West Southwest Loop 323 in Tyler.   Tyler police say the owner recognized the man pumping gas because he drove off without paying for his gasoline once before. The owner approached the man, and that's when police say the man assaulted the owner. Several people witnessed the incident.

"I was coming over to get a drink, and I started getting closer to the gas station, and I saw two people arguing," said Will Roberts, witness. "The black male I guess was wrestling with him and tackled him and pushed him to the ground and got in his car and drove off."   Police say the man stole about $15.00 worth of gas this morning, but witnesses gave a good description of him, including his license plate number. Police say they hope to have an arrest soon.
