Mavs Let Game 3 Win Slip Away

MIAMI (AP) _ Dwyane Wade scored 42 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and orchestrated a furious fourth-quarter Miami comeback as the Heat escaped with a 98-96 win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game Three of the NBA Finals.

The Heat rallied from a 13-point deficit in the final six and a-half minutes. Miami trails 2-to-1 but has the next two games at home where the Heat are 9-1 in the playoffs.

Miami reserve Gary Payton hit a jumper with 9.3 seconds left that gave the Heat the lead. It was Payton's only basket of the game.

Shaquille O'Neal added 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Heat enjoyed a 49-34 edge in rebounding.

Dallas still had plenty of chances late, but Dirk Nowitzki missed a free throw with 3.4 seconds to go. The Mavericks couldn't convert on an inbounds play in the final second.

Nowitzki led the Mavs with 30 points.

Game Four is Thursday night in Miami.
