Hurricane Warnings Issued For Florida's Gulf Coast

Part of Florida's Gulf Coast is under a hurricane warning.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Alberto has rapidly gained strength. Forecaster Michelle Mainelli (may-NEHL'-ee) says Alberto's winds are up to 70 miles-an-hour from 50 miles an hour just three hours earlier. It could produce hurricane force winds within the next 24 hours. The hurricane warning extends from Longboat Key near Sarasota to the Ochlockonee (oh-KLAHK'-nee) River, just south of Tallahassee in the panhandle. Alberto is centered about 190 miles south-southwest of Florida's panhandle and is moving north-northeast at about seven miles an hour.
