Smith County Courthouse Repairs & Remodeling

Repairs and remodeling plans are underway for the Smith County courthouse.  Today, Smith County Judges expressed their concerns about the courthouse to commissioners. At the end, commissioners voted to put a new roof on the courthouse, which is estimated to cost around $200,000. Funds were also approved to replace equipment for district attorney's office and the remodeling of one courtroom.

"The other renovations that will involved Judge Clark's and the 321st courtroom located now and that area is going to be renovated and remodeled and have bullet proof glass," says Judge Jack Skeen, 241st District of Smith County.

Judge Skeen says extensive remodeling was put on hold until they know what future plans may be for a new jail and possible justice system.
