New Information On Smith County Shootings

Tonight we are still piecing together all the details of yesterdays deadly shooting North of Tyler.  Both the Smith County Sheriff's Department and Tyler Police Department have turned the investigation over to the Texas Rangers and District Attorney's Office.

Smith County Constable Dale Geddie was killed and Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Leon was wounded while answering a domestic disturbance call at a home on Pine Springs Drive. The gunman, Joseph Walsh, was also killed.

We have more details tonight about how the standoff ended. Officials say when Walsh, aggressively approached officers outside his home he had a what authorities now describe as a high powered rifle. A Tyler SWAT team member then shot him once in the right side of his chest. Officials say Walsh died on the way to the hospital.

Texas Rangers are still gathering evidence and talking to witnesses. All the information collected will then be presented to a grand jury. We are not sure when that will be.
