Several Restaurants Fall Short, Others Receive Perfect Scores

In Cherokee County,

Lupe's Mexican Restaurant at 517 East Rusk in Jacksonville was inspected May 17.  Refried beans tested at 125 degrees; should be 135 degrees or above.  Other beans had not been cooled properly.  Cheese enchilada tested at 109 degrees; should be 135 degrees or above. Improper handwash facilities noted, and no hand sanitizer or soap available at some sinks. Mold on an ice maker.

Total demerits: 28.  A recheck has been ordered, but is not yet on file.

Rio Grande at 201 San Antonio in Alto was inspected May 9. Ground beef in cooler tested at 46 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below.  Steak and chicken at 91 to 105 degrees; should be 135 degrees or above.  An employee drink was seen in a food prep area. No cold water at restroom sink, and no hot water at kitchen sink. Dish machine not sanitizing. Vent hood needed cleaning.

Total demerits: 23. No recheck ordered.

In the City of Henderson,  Taco Bell at 300 Highway 79 South was inspected May 9. Fried chicken tested at 136 degrees, should be 140 degrees or above. Problem corrected on sight. No hot water or towels at employee handsink.

Letter grade: B. No recheck ordered.
