Wounded Deputy Expected To Recover

Daniel Leon, the deputy who was wounded in the shooting north of Tyler Wednesday is in the hospital, recovering from three gunshot wounds.

He was shot twice in his leg and once in his arm.  He underwent surgery, but we're told his injuries are not life threatening.  He was listed in fair condition Wednesday night at East Texas Medical Center.

Deputy Leon is an eight-year veteran of the department and joined the sheriff's office as a jail officer back in 1998. He was promoted to deputy in the patrol division in December of 2004.

Leon is married with three children, one of them just a few weeks old.
