More than 700 free lunches were handed out to East Texas children and teens today. It was the kick off for the 2006 Summer Lunch Program.
Since 1982, the city has been serving free, healthy lunches to kids ages 1-18. The program is paid for by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It targets low income children, but anyone is eligible for the meals.
For more information about the program, call the City of Tyler's Neighborhood Services at 903-531-1303. We've also set up a list of all 14 distribution sites. Just click on the Know More On 7 link and go to Summer Lunch Program.
