Kilgore P.D. Loses Eight Officers In Eight Months

The City of Kilgore has had many familiar faces leave its police force for a problem that many small towns face:  pay scale.   Out of a force of 30 officers, the Kilgore Police Department has lost eight officers over the last eight months. Those officers have moved on to higher-paying jobs.   The starting pay rate in the Kilgore P.D. is around $32,000 a year.

Kilgore, like many small towns, can't compete with larger departments that offer better salaries. The loss isn't just manpower, but the time and money invested in training officers. Although it's not a new problem, it's a concern for police and citizens.  Pay increases for officers will be discussed at the budget meeting in October by the Kilgore City Council.
