The Spelling Bee Comes To Prime Time

"B-A-R-R-I-C-A-D-E. Barricade."

That's Fugong Wu during round 1 of the regional spelling bee contest in Dallas.

He said, "I was very nervous."

During round 2, those nerves got the best of him.

"Strategy. S-T-R-A-G-Y."

"I went up on the stage, and I got terrified. They gave me an easy word, and I was like, 'I want to get off the stage quickly,' so I spelled it too quickly without even thinking," said Wu.

He says to win the spelling bee, you have to be mentally prepared. That's why tonight, his money's on Amy Chyao, the girl who won the Dallas bee.

"Every time she spells, she just thinks of it over and over again in her head, and she just asks a lot of questions about it," said Wu.

He'll be watching the bee tonight, but he says it'll be bittersweet.

"I'm very happy. I just regret that I'm not in it."
