Officers Awarded For Bravery

They helped capture two men accused of shooting a DPS trooper. Today, they were awarded for their bravery.

16 officers and dispatchers with the Tyler Police Department were recognized for their part in the March 22nd pursuit. Chief Gary Swindle presented Medals of Valor, Meritorious Conduct, Police Commendations, and Certificates of Merit. The department says catching those suspects that night was a team effort that deserves to be recognized.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Sharron said, "These officers knew what they were getting into, yet they still went forth and tried to apprehend these individuals. The teamwork was spectacular."

Trooper Steve Stone who was shot that night is still recovering, but DPS says he's doing well. There's still no word on when he will return to work.
