Hundreds Attend Spring Job Fair

The school year is coming to an end, and East Texas students are looking for summer work. Finding that job is not always easy, but one organization is there to help.  The East Texas Workforce Center held its Spring Job Fair today.  One of the popular tables was Great American Cookies.

"We're here to find us some smiley faces," said District Manager Chuck Schrick.  "We're in need for sale associates, a management position and more importantly a cake decorator." Stephanie Idio just completed her first year at TJC. She says she's been all over town looking for a job.   Today, she got a little help from the Workforce Center.

"It's kind of like going on the Internet and typing in key words in search, you know all these things start popping up," said Stephanie Idio, TJC Student. Today's job fair wasn't just for students. More than 40 companies were looking to hire.

"In the 14 counties in which we serve, we're sitting at around 12 to 15 thousand jobs right now," said John Valent, Site Manager for East Texas Workforce Center. Tyler Professional Staffing is hiring for clerical positions. The Lambrecht Company needs civil and industrial engineers, and the city of Tyler is looking for dispatchers. Great American Cookies had a successful day.

"We had three perspective candidates," said Schrick. "We have interviews set up at two, three, and four o'clock this afternoon."

"Finding a job shouldn't be that difficult," said Valent. "We can help them do this."   The East Texas Workforce Center holds job fairs every month.   On June 22nd, it's having a Medical Job Expo at the Tyler Rose Garden. It's from 1:00  to 5:00 p.m.   The East Texas Workforce Center is always accepting applications. It's located on Troup Highway in Tyler.
