An elderly man drowns on an East Texas lake. It happened around 4 o'clock on Wednesday, on Lake Palestine, just off the shore of Lakeside Drive. That's near Dogwood City.
Authorities say 74 year old Harold Flowers was taking his boat out on the lake. When his boat made a hard turn and he was ejected. Family members saw it happen and immediately tried to rescue him. Investigators say Flowers was not wearing a life jacket.
"He had all of his safety equipment in the boat, he just wasn't wearing one. He just had bypass surgery and heart valve replacement in March. They just released him to drive a vehicle this week and he thought he could get out there and operate his boat," says Chris Green, Game Warden of Smith County.
Green says Flower's death will, most likely, be ruled an accidental drowning.
