Incident In Winona High School, One Student Injured

New this morning, A Winona High school Student is hospitalized after an incident inside a classroom this morning, where an explosion happened.

ATF investigators say this was related to a physics project. Investigators say students were making small canon like devices and made explosive powder.

The project was supposed to be done this afternoon, but one student started it early.

This all happened around 9:40 in the maintenance shop beside the high school. The superintendent says 17-year-old Johnathon Strength was in the building with his father, who works there, when the explosion happened.

One of Johnathon's hands was seriously injured. He was conscious when paramedics arrived and was taken by helicopter to a local hospital. It's not clear what kind of materials Johnathon was working with.

No other students were nearby, or injured in this incident.
