Discovery Science Place Adding Auditorium, New Science Lab

A big expansion for one of East Texas' biggest childrens' museums.

Tuesday, the Junior League of Tyler awarded the Discovery Science Place a $100,000 grant to purchase what will become the Junior League of Tyler Discovery Annex.

Work has already started on the building right next door, and by the summer, it's hoped a new auditorium and a hands-on science lab will be ready for the thousands who visit every year.

Kristen Seeber is President of the Junior League of Tyler.

"Because the League was so instrumental in founding this, this day is so exciting; to see it come full circle that these services are being expanded so we can educate more children and expand more minds," Seeber said.

Nelson Clyde III is a Discovery Science Place board member.

"[The DSP] is very significant in providing a wholesome and educational activity for not just schoolchildren and families, but we have people from about a 30 county area come here."

The Junior League provided the initial funding to create the Discovery Science Place back in 1991.
