Bush Urging Elderly To Work Through Complexities Of Drug Plan

President Bush is in Orlando, Florida today to again urge senior citizens to sign-up for the the new Medicare prescription drug program.

Monday is the deadline to signup without penalty. Those who don't enroll by then will face higher premiums.

Yesterday, Bush pitched the program to seniors in Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.

It allows 43 (m) million Medicare beneficiaries to enroll in a government-paid private plan that will subsidize the cost of their prescription medications. About 37 (m) million either have signed up or are automatically enrolled.

Florida has the highest percentage of seniors in the country and they have power at the ballot box. Floridians will be voting for a governor and senator in November.
