A car crash on Interstate 20 kills one person and slows down traffic for several hours. The collision took place around 4:45 p.m. near mile marker 573 in Smith County. Officials say two separate crashes took place.
The first one, when the driver of a maroon Ford Taurus, traveling west on I-20, lost control and went through the grass and into the other lane of traffic. That's when the driver hit a beige Saturn sending it into the ditch. The driver of the Saturn, a Tyler woman, officials say was killed on impact.
The next crash happened when a semi truck traveling east hit the Ford Taurus from behind. Both passengers in the Taurus, as well as, the passenger in the Saturn were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Officials have not yet released the victim's name until family is notified.
