Four Private Schools, Four Public Schools To Battle In "Tyler Classic"

East Texas has a new season opening football classic with a unique twist.
It will be public schools versus private schools.

Coaches from eight schools, four private, and four public gathered at Brook Hill Thursday afternoon to introduce the first ever Tyler Classic, sponsored by Texas Spine and Joint Hospital and Azalea Orthopedics.

Brook Hill's Harrington Stadium will host the entire three day event.

"I think it's unique that you have the four private schools from the Tyler area at one event," said Brook Hill Coach Paul Johnston. "All the different schools, the public schools will play private schools in non-district games but to have them together for one event like this, is pretty unique."

Here's the lineup: On Thursday, August 31, the newly formed All-Saints Trojans football team will take on Covington, at 7:30 p.m.

Brook Hill will play Fruitvale, Friday, September 1, at 7:30 p.m.

TK Gorman will face the Canton Eagles in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, September 2. That game is at 2 p.m.
Grace Community will play Cayuga at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15.
