Female Jogger Attacked In Woods

An East Texas jogger is attacked in the woods, but was able to get away. Police say the man responsible for the attack is still on the loose tonight.

The jogger could give very few details of him, but said he was a black male. The jogger was listening to music and was also carrying a can of mace when she decided to take a shortcut through the woods last night.

Around 8:30 p.m., she was just off Plantation Drive and Rieck Road. That's near the Dove Tree Apartments in Tyler. It was in these woods, the man grabbed the victim. She then sprayed the attacker in the face with pepper spray.

Police say the man let go and fled on foot. The victim immediately called police.

"She's very smart by having that with her and being able to use it," said Officer Don Martin, Tyler Police Department. "She did a great job. Not only that, she let out a very loud scream to the fact of bringing attention to herself, so she did all the right things other than she probably put herself in a bad location."

If you have any information, you're urged to call the Tyler Police Department.
