Thieves Hit Tyler's Salvation Army

When the weather turned warm this week, volunteers at the Tyler Salvation Army's Community Center turned on the air conditioning, but the building was not cooling down. When maintenance workers went out to check the air conditioners, they discovered someone had come and clipped and stolen the copper tubing from six units. Replacement and repairs for those units will run over 10 thousand dollars. Salvation Army spokesman Linda Edwards says that's not the only cost.

"We are going to have to put security fences around all of our units throughout all of our campus to keep this from happening again. That is going to be a tremendous extra expense," says Edwards.

Insurance will cover most of the cost of replacing the air conditioning units, but it will not cover the fence. If you would like to help the Salvation Army call 903-592-4361.
