Two East Texas Reservoirs Approved

Thousands of acres of land in East Texas could soon be filled with water. The Texas Water Development Board approved a plan Tuesday that includes the building of two reservoirs that would pump water to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Marvin Nichols Reservoir located just South of Clarksville would flood 72,000 acres of land. The Fastrill Reservoir would flood 30,000 acres between Palestine and Rusk. Last week members of the Friends of the Neches River held up signs in protest of the Fastrill Reservoir. The grass roots organization wants to establish a National Wildlife Refuge in the same area. The building of the reservoirs is several years away. Protestors say they are not giving up.
