Preventative Medicine For Breast Cancer

Older women at high risk of breast cancer may soon have a choice of preventative medicine. The National Cancer Institute reports, the osteoporosis drug Raloxifene also known as Evista can work double duty and help protect against breast cancer.

Researchers suggest it may work just as well as the leading breast cancer prevention drug-- Tamoxifen. Experts say the decreased side effects of Raloxifene could make this medication much more appealing.

"Now we have something that will help us with less side effects. I think that's very important that's a milestone, it's great," says Dr. Svetislava Vukelja, Oncologist with Tyler Cancer Center.
