An East Texas town loses its only day care in a fire. Around 3:00 a.m. fire crews were called to The Playhouse on the corner of Front and Dee Street in Arp. Firefighters say when they arrived, part of the roof was already caved in. Police say they called the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office to investigate the fire as a possible arson. They say there were four break ins overnight in area businesses. They include the Arp Police Station, the Arp State Bank, the Arp Junior High School and a local flower shop.
"We don't have things like this happen in one night when it's just going through town," said City Marshal Scott Mcauley. "With the day care burning down also, we thought it would be a good idea to get the arson dogs out."
"If someone did do this I do want them prosecuted," said day care teacher Becky Schmidt. "I do want them to pay for what they did because they did take away a good school for these kids." Police say they do have suspects and hope to make an arrest tomorrow. Teachers at the day care say they are looking for a temporary day care for the children.
