Longview Home Destroyed By Fire

A home in Gregg County goes up in flames. Firefighters could not get to the burning house in time to save it.

The home is located on private road 1643 in Gregg county. Longview firefighters were called there shortly before 8 a.m. 84-year-old Rosa Jones, who has lived in the home for more than 30 years, was out fishing when her home caught fire.

Rosa's home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The fire marshal said since the home was outside the city limits, so it took firefighters about fifteen minutes to get there. They say the closest hydrant was a mile and a half"away.

Helen Stinson, Rosa's friend said, "(They) just didn't have the fire trucks. Now, we have some stations here, but they're not open yet. One (fire crew) we got today came out of Longview, so we definitely need some working stations out here in the area."

Fortunately, no one was injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
