Longview Dedicates New Softball Fields

A new era of softball began in Longview this evening. It was opening day at Lear Park, where Phase 2 was officially dedicated. The beautiful new softball fields were named for the Junior League of Longview, who, along with Gregg County and the city of Longview, matched a $500,000 state grant.

"It is a cooperative effort," said Junior League of Longview President Michelle Jones, "and I think that it is a great example of how entities of the government, from business, and non profits can come together, and make something big and important happen for the community."

Two more fields and a concession stand will be added over the next two years. It's a project Longview mayor Jay Dean says, had a $7 million economic impact on the area last year.
