Jacksonville's police chief has been put on paid administrative leave. Mark Johnson had been acting as police chief since May of 2001. Under his leadership, the department recieved a no confidence vote from the Fraternal Organization of Police. Mounting complaints from citizens and staff forced Jacksonville's city manager to put Johnson on leave. Today, the mayor told KLTV "The greatest service we offer our citizens is public safety. Jacksonville elected officials needed to do something to restore eroding public confidence."
