It was a long, stressful, basketball season for the Arp Tigers. Battling through seven rounds of the playoffs makes it hard to enjoy the successes along the way. Tonight, the Tigers were finally able to enjoy it. The 2006 2A State Champions were honored at the Arp area Chamber of Commerce annual banquet. The team showed off it's new trophy, while the players showed off their state medals.
"We went straight from winning state to baseball practice on Monday," said senior guard Wes Wills, "so we didn't have that much time to enjoy it. But, tonight is our night and we are going to enjoy every bit of it."
"It's been a great ride," added head coach Brian Keith. "The state championship with these guys is a wonderful experience. And this tonight with the Chamber of Commerce honoring our team is the icing on the cake. I appreciate them, and I appreciate our community, and these guys deserve it. I'm glad that they're here and can enjoy such a thing."
The Tigers beat Ponder 65-49 to win the school's first ever basketball state championship.
