Here are some scams the Better Business Bureau says you should watch out for.
Slavery reparations: The BBB says this comes up every year, but legally they don't exist. Also watch out for any illegal scheme instructing employers not to withhold federal income tax from your wages. When you hear advertisements for "instant refunds" the BBB says use a little patience. It will cost you much less in the long run. "If you'd just wait a little bit longer and let your refund come back to you, you'd have the benefit of all that money," says Kay Robinson, President of the Better Business Bureau of Central East Texas. The BBB also says if a company is preparing your tax return, make sure you research to find out if there are any complaints against them.
Taxes this year are due on Monday, April 17th, because the normal April 15th deadline falls on a Saturday.
