Standout QB G.J. Kinne Withdraws From Canton HS

When former Canton coach Gary Joe Kinne left to coach at Baylor University, many Eagle fans wondered if his son and standout quarterback G.J., would remain at the school.

Monday, G.J. officially withdrew from Canton ISD.

The district confirmed the all-state quarterback's departure. Officials said Kinne's mother met with the district Monday morning.

Sources said the main concern was for G.J.'s safety. Coach Gary Joe Kinne was shot in the school's field house, and the trial for the shooting recently wrapped up.

It's also G.J.'s next move that has fans talking. He will reportedly enroll at Gilmer High School.
Last season Kinne and the Canton Eagles defeated the 2004 defending champion Buckeyes in the regional semi-finals.

Ironically, Gilmer and Canton will meet for the first game of the season.
