In Martin's Mill there was plenty of smiles and cheering Saturday afternoon.
The town celebrated their Lady Mustangs state championship win. Martin's Mill claimed the Class A, Division I title just a few weeks ago. A parade wound through the main street kicking off the day's celebrations.
This year's team was the first to win a girls championship in Martin's Mill. The party moved into the gym where each girl was named and honored. Everyone is still beaming.
The team was ranked number one for most of the season, but folks say it's still overwhelming to know they are champs.
"It's starting to hit us all I think," said coach Doug Barncastle. "Right after you win a state championship, you get on a little bit of a high there. I tell everybody, our toes are starting to touch the ground finally."
"We'll never forget it, as long as we live," said Lady Mustangs fan Jerry Daniels. "It's an awesome thing for our school and all our people and for Martin's Mill."
