Trashing East Texas: School Computers Dumped

Two men have been arrested, accused of trashing East Texas.

The men are being held responsible for trash outside the Wiggins Tire Shop off I-20, near the Smith/Van Zandt county line.

The land around the shop is littered with old tires. Danny Brasher, the Smith County Environmental Crimes officer, has given the former tenants 30 days to clean that up or they'll face felony charges.

The bigger problem, according to Brasher, is a pile of computers that once belonged to Van ISD. David Goff, VISD Director of Operations says the computers were sold in a surplus auction and he does not know how they ended up here. Brasher had told us the suspects were paid to properly dispose of them, but dumped them on the site instead.

Late Thursday, two suspects were arrested.  34 year old Cecil Huff and 43 year old Randy Johns, are both of Van Zandt county. Each is charged with one count of felony illegal dumping.
