Mayor Delivers Meals To Encourage Volunteerism

They provide nearly 750,000 meals to East Texas seniors every year.  Meals On Wheels needs your help.

Wednesday, Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber helped deliver meals to several Tyler families, including a very special lady: 102-year-old Ellen Whitfield.

Seeber's visit is part of the March For Meals, a national campaign to raise awareness of hunger in communities around the U.S.

"Meals On Wheels can always use people to help in different ways, for all kinds of things. If you have a few extra hours a week, then Meals On Wheels is a great place to volunteer," Seeber said.

High gas prices and the economic downturn after 9/11 have left Meals On Wheels in need of drivers.  If you can help, or know someone who needs Meals On Wheels delivery, you can call them at (903) 593-7385.
