A former Florida school teacher accused of having an inappropiate relationship with a minor, is off the hook. Prosecutors have dropped the charges. 25-year old debra lafave, a former school teacher, had been accused of having sex with a 14-year-old middle school student.
Prosecutors dropped the charges because the judge rejected a plea deal, since it contained no prison time. The plea deal was meant to spare the boy from having to testify, something his mother wanted to avoid. Lafave says she has bipolar disorder and that her illness had a lot to do with her actions. Her attorney says if the case had gone to trial, several psychiatrists would have made a compelling argument on behalf of lafave.
