Civil War Demonstration At Camp Ford

It was back to the 1800s today for a group of East Texas home school students. Almost 200 people at Camp Ford in Smith County got to see what it was like in the Civil War era.

This is the second year volunteers from the Smith County Historical Society have met up to demonstrate during the Azalea Trail weekend. The group put a "real life" face on what the students had only read about in their history books.

The girls' favorite part...the women's dresses. As for the boys, Bob Davidson of the Sons of Confederate Veterans says, "Weapons. The guns, the knives, the cannons are the main thing they're interested in."

The weapons include vintage knives, pistols, shot guns and a cannon. The black powder pistols were demonstrated to the delight of the crowd. The group will hold another similar demonstration next Saturday, March 25th.
