Governor Perry Heads To The Panhandle

Governor Rick Perry is scheduled to visit the Panhandle today.  Wildfires, fanned by 50 mph wind gusts, have scorched nearly a million acres.

Authorities say the fires northeast of Amarillo moved 40 miles further to the northeast yesterday, and are nearing the Oklahoma border. Six more towns in the corner of the Texas panhandle are on alert for possible evacuations.

11 people have died since the fires flared and officials estimate ten-thousand horses and cows have been killed.
