Cowboys Release Keyshawn Johnson

Things at Valley Ranch had been pretty quiet, with just a few free agent signings here and there.

But the quiet ended Tuesday afternoon, when the Cowboys released veteran wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson.

The Cowboys made the move just before a deadline that would have forced Dallas to pay Johnson a $1 million roster bonus. The Cowboys website reports Johnson was expected to count for $3.6 million against the cap this year, but it was believed Johnson wanted a much larger contract over the next few years.

Keyshawn led the Cowboys last year with 71 catches and was second in receiving yards with 839 and six touchdowns.
