Storms Sweep Through Midwest

At least five states will be assessing damage today from weekend tornadoes.

Sixty percent of the buildings on the University of Kansas campus at Lawrence are damaged. Classes are canceled. Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois also felt the wrath of severe weekend weather.

Two people were killed Saturday, another was killed Sunday. Forecasters say storms that hit Central Illinois last night have since blown into the northern part of the state. Authorities say high winds tore the roofs off several buildings in the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview, and flooding was reported on the ramps of several Chicago-area expressways.

Two hospitals went to emergency generators as power was cut in some areas. Wind gusts of 70 miles per hour were recorded in the southern Chicago suburb of Tinley Park.
