Arp Tigers Ready For First State Tournament Appearance

They are the first Arp team to make it to Austin. Their motto, plain and simple, "SWAT," State With Arp Tigers.

Arp defeated the defending champion and top ranked Kountze Lions Saturday to advance to the 2A semifinals.

Monday, the team hit the court for practice with the hope of bringing home the town's first title.

The appearance at state is also a first for Coach Brian Keith. The Tigers said they already defeated one giant, now they look to do the same in Austin.

"We knew we could beat (Kountze)," said guard Corey Walker. "We just wanted to prove to everybody that we could beat them. Our coach had a nice little speech with us about David and Goliath and we just didn't back down from anything."

"I'm real proud of the group, we've got guys that have stepped up and gave performances all year long and it's led to this," said Coach Keith.

Arp will play San Antonio Cole in the semifinals. Tipoff is Thursday, March 9, at 9 a.m. at Austin's Frank Erwin Center.
