"Hogzilla" Makes Way For New Highway

Old Jacksonville Highway just outside the Tyler city limits is getting a new look. Construction is underway to expand the highway to five lanes from Grande Boulevard to FM 2813 and a piece of equipment called the "Hogzilla" is helping speed up the process. It grinds up about 250 tons a day.

The construction is expected to be complete in the summer or fall of 2008. While construction is in progress, the speed limit has been permanently reduced to 45 miles per hour. Also, traffic fines will double when workers are present. To find out the latest on this project, Tx-DOT has set up a hotline at 903-525-3535.
