Cardboard Boat Races Held In Longview

A bizarre science project Friday had Longview students working with cardboard and tape to build makeshift boats. It was the third annual "cardboard boat" races at the Longview high school swim center. Physics students were only allowed to use cardboard and masking tape to come up with a boat that would float 2 students across the pool and back.
Students were instructed by teachers to put into practice the dynamics of water displacement called the "Archamedes principle", meaning building a vessel that will hold the weight contained in it. 25 boats entered the contest, most sank. The winners got the award of "staying dry".
