The Troop police department was turned into a crime scene this morning. After the town's police chief and another officer, found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

The arrests happened overnight after a lengthy investigation. Troup police chief Chester Kennedy is charged with tampering, or fabricating physical evidence. His bail was set at $400,000. He has since bonded out of jail.

Officer Samuel Mark Turner was also booked-in on tampering, or fabricating physical evidence. Turner is also charged with delivery of marijuana. He's still in custody with a $500,000 bail.

Smith county sheriffs, the District Attorney's office and the FBI are all on top of this case, they spent 12 hours collecting evidence.

Now the Troup police department has been turned over to the city.

The city council held an emergency meeting. The city decided to continue with its current plan, which is to have the Smith County Sheriff's Department and the Constable's office patrol the Troup streets.

The rest of the Troup officers will be off this weekend because of the ongoing investigation. The entire police force is assisting in the investigation.
